Therapy and Counselling in Derbyshire
Hello my name is Gill and I have been working in the area of counselling for over 10 years. I have worked in the NHS, the Private and the Voluntary sectors, including Bereavement Counselling and Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence service in Chesterfield. I am committed to providing counselling and couples counselling in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment.
I have a Post Graduate Diploma in Gestalt Pastoral Counselling and am trained in Emotionally Focused Couples Counselling developed by Dr Sue Johnson, author of ‘Hold me Tight’ and ‘Seven Conversations for a lifetime of Love’.
I am a full Registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and ICEEFT (International Centre For Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy).

How I work
I work with both individual adults and couples with a here and now relational emphasis of the Gestalt approach, but I also draw on other approaches and trainings where necessary, so my way of working is ‘integrative’.
I tend to work with what feels would be most appropriate and helpful for that person and the issues they have brought.
I hope to enable my clients towards healing, resolution and empowerment-and to be more liking of themselves. To take their present and future into their own hands and not be led by the past.
My priority is to develop a trusting, confidential and non judgemental therapeutic relationship with clients that helps them explore their own understanding of themselves and patterns of thinking, feeling and behaviour.
I work on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period, and I invite prospective clients to an initial session with me to see if I might be the right counsellor for them.
I have over 40 years of personal experience of ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder) and High functioning Autism or Asperger’s from my own family.
I have a special interest in clients (individual or couples) who present with ASD or who are partners of people with Asperger Syndrome or parenting and supporting a child with ASD. I also see parents who are supporting children or teenagers with specific needs or mental health issues.
My practice is in central Matlock, within easy reach of Matlock Train Station and Matlock Bus station and 10 miles from Chesterfield, Derbyshire.
